About Us

Having been brought up in the lowlands of Suffolk, we moved to the Peak District in 1987 making the most of an opportunity to bring up our family in this beautiful area.

Looking for somewhere to live, we happened upon the Outrake, previously a childrens’ home until its recent closure. Peter and a colleague purchased the property and embarked on conversion and refurbishment to create Chestnut House, Dove Cottage and the Lodge (together with Outrake House next door).

The photograph below shows the Outrake around the 1930s when it was owned by a wealthy family from Manchester who used it as a holiday home!

The Outrake

You can find out more about the Outrake and the village in a fascinating book “Little Longstone – into the Millennium” which vividly captures its past and present spirit in words and pictures (copies in the cottages).
