Fantastic Views of The Peak District
Lovely 3 bedroom holiday cottage. The perfect base for friends and family to explore the Derbyshire Dales. Only a few minutes walk to Monsal Head in one direction, and a short walk to The Packhorse Inn in the other.
Approached by its own driveway, the Lodge is a detached stone cottage which we think originally served as a gatehouse/caretaker’s accommodation serving what is now Chestnut House. It started as a tiny single storey building but has since been substantially rebuilt and sympathetically extended in local limestone. The newer 2 storey addition is at a lower level so the ground floor areas are linked by 3 steps and stairs then rise from the hallway to the first floor. The Lodge has front and back doors from the hallway and bi-fold doors and French windows opening onto to the patio from the lounge.
The lounge overlooks the south facing cottage garden with its table and chairs, plant pots and natural stone paving. The garden is bordered by a stone wall and beech hedge – beyond this is a private parking area for 3 cars and a further lawned area. There are outstanding views towards Chatsworth and Bakewell and as far as Riber Castle (over 10 miles away) on a clear day. In our opinion – and many of our regular guests – this view just cannot be beaten.
All Your home comforts
The Lodge is furnished in a contemporary cottage style – with limed oak kitchen units and a round pine dining table in the breakfast area. The lounge is particularly light and airy, with comfy settees, a further dining table and a logburner for cooler evenings. Smart TV (Freeview)/DVD/WiFi plus books, games and information. The reception areas and kitchen have stone slate floors and the lounge has oak flooring. All the bedrooms are carpeted. The cottage is well equipped with gas cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine plus all the other utensils you are likely to need.
Off the hallway is a ground floor bedroom (kingsize bed) and adjacent shower room. A bonus for the less agile! The bedroom enjoys a view over the garden.
Upstairs the master bedroom has a superkingsize bed beyond which there is a chill out area with contemporary chairs affording exceptional views over the surrounding countryside. There is an ensuite shower room.
The second bedroom has twin beds and an adjacent shower/bathroom.

“We loved The Lodge and highly recommend it. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and really well appointed with a very well equipped kitchen. The views are second to none and the first floor sitting room was so relaxing I could’ve sat for hours just staring at the hills! Annie was a super host and even brought us some fantastic homemade chocolate cake. Location is also great with easy access to the Monsal Trail and a number of pubs within a relatively short walk. Many thanks Annie for a thoroughly enjoyable stay.”
